Westbrook's next chapter starts with a plan for the land around the station

Westbrook has been here before. A concept plan was approved in 2014 and the land sold to a developer, but the project never materialized. The City bought the land back a decade later. Now it is working on a different approach.

The ambitions are familiar: housing and retail near the station, useful outdoor space and better connections to transit. The new work revisits how the site should be laid out and developed, rather than simply dusting off the old plan.

A fall application, not a construction date

A formal planning application is expected in fall 2026. It would go through staff review, Calgary Planning Commission and a Council public hearing. That leaves room for changes and further public feedback before a final decision.

For neighbours, the details worth watching are at street level: where people will walk, how shops meet the sidewalk and whether the open space feels like somewhere to spend time. Those choices will say more about everyday life around Westbrook than another rendering of the skyline.
