The national policy rate was held at 2.25 per cent on July 15. It has remained at that level through the first five scheduled decisions of 2026. The next scheduled rate announcement is September 2. The central bank said uncertainty remains elevated even as it expects inflation to ease gradually after a recent energy-related increase.
A steady policy rate does not mean every mortgage offer or household budget is unchanged. It does mean the late-summer Calgary conversation can spend less time reacting to a fresh central-bank move and more time on the homes available, the payment range a household is comfortable with and the timing of a specific purchase or sale.
