Calgary's downtown office conversion program is supporting 21 projects across a combined 2.68 million square feet of former office space. The program reports that those projects are transforming the space into 2,667 homes, one hotel with 226 rooms and a hostel. The latest program version widened the eligible-use conversation beyond residential conversion to include options such as student housing, seniors housing, co-living, life sciences, self-storage, schools and cultural uses.

For the downtown market, conversion is not simply a supply statistic. It changes the mix of people who can spend time there, the hours when streets feel active and the kind of retail, services and transit demand a district can support.
